Dietrich Stephan, Ph.D.
Dietrich A. Stephan, Ph.D. is currently the Chairman of the Department of Human Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh, and leads the effort in Public Health Genetics and Translational Acceleration at the Personalized Medicine Institute of the University of Pittsburgh/UPMC.
Stephan most recently founded and served as President and CEO of Silicon Valley Biosystems, a company funded by Sequoia Capital and partnered with the Mayo Clinic that offers genome-based diagnostics at the point of care.
Stephan has won the Bio-IT World Grand Prize in 2005 and the “Most Influential in Bringing Genomics to the Clinic” award in 2010, and the Legacy Laureate Award form the University of Pittsburgh. In addition to contributing regularly to the media, Stephan has been featured twice on the front page of the Wall Street Journal for his contributions to medicine.
